Description:

This Women’s Dreaming at Kumalpa is painted on canvas board in the distinctive style Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri developed after 1974. The composition retains the strong iconographic clarity of the early Western Desert painting movement, with concentric circles marking significant sites and clearly articulated U-shaped forms representing seated women.

Across the surface, tightly worked fields of dots in ochreous yellow, pink and red create a richly textured ground, while the crisp white outlining gives the principal ceremonial imagery a striking graphic presence. The balance between traditional Western Desert iconography and increasingly elaborate fields of colour is characteristic of Stockman’s developing work during this period.

Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri was one of the original Papunya painters and an important figure in the emergence of the Western Desert art movement. Works retaining such clearly legible early iconography are particularly sought after by collectors.

Presented framed and ready to hang.
