Hermannsburg Shield

Painted Hermannsburg Shield Central Australia

Object type: Aboriginal Shield

Locality: Central desert

Artist: Unknown

Circa: 1955

Length: 64 cm

Description:

This early Hermannsburg shield depicts two aboriginals at a corroboree.  They are dressed in sacred body paint with a feathered headdress. The detail is so fine and the artist has really captured the movement of the dance.  One of the best shields Hermannsburg shields I have seen.
